José García Moros was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1971. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Zaragoza (UZ) in 1994 and completed his PhD in 1998 with Sobresaliente Cum Laude, a European Doctorate mention, and the Extraordinary PhD Award, within the program in Communications Technology and Telematics. In 1999, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering and Communications (Telematics Engineering area) at the School of Engineering and Architecture of UZ. He has been a Full Professor since 2017, having obtained accreditation for this rank in 2012.
His career has been marked by significant research contributions to communication networks and biomedical engineering, particularly at the intersection of network technologies, machine learning, and digital health. As coordinator and active member of several research groups, most recently the CeNIT group at the Aragon Institute for Engineering Research (I3A), he has led research teams, contributed to institutional strategy, and strengthened national and international scientific collaboration. His research interests include network security, machine and deep learning techniques for traffic classification, coding and transmission protocols, network management and QoS, as well as interoperability standards for medical devices, telemonitoring architectures, and e-Health services.
José García has conducted international research stays in the US (1996), Sweden (1997–98), and Austria (2004–05), establishing long-standing partnerships and enhancing global visibility for his institution. He has an extensive scientific output: 62 papers in JCR-indexed international journals (33 Q1, 17 Q2, 6 Q3, 6 Q4) and over 170 conference contributions. He has obtained five six-year research periods. His work has received more than 3,300 citations and an h-index of 32 in Google Scholar, over 1,300 citations and an h-index of 22 in Web of Science, and more than 48,000 reads on ResearchGate.
He has secured substantial competitive funding, participating in more than 50 research, development and innovation projects, and leading over 20 of them. His collaboration with industry has promoted knowledge transfer through innovation projects addressing real-world needs, contributing to secure communication solutions, telemedicine platforms, and digital health tools. He has also played an active role in scientific dissemination, participating in national and international conferences, organizing events, peer-reviewing for leading journals, and serving as evaluator or technical advisory board member in research programs.
A constant element of his professional activity is his dedication to mentoring and teaching. He has supervised or co-supervised eight PhD theses and currently supervises three more. With more than 25 years of teaching experience, he has lectured in bachelor’s and master’s programs in Telecommunications Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and supervised over 40 final projects. He has also published on educational innovation and teaching methodologies.
His involvement in academic management includes serving as Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering and Communications (2009–2013) and as a member of the Undergraduate Studies Commission of UZ, contributing to program development and institutional decision-making.
